A brief history…
Family has always been central to Oshawa-based PR Engineering Limited. In 1965, company founder Paul Grieco, had acquired the rights to the Birdsboro Buchanan rock crusher and was subcontracting out the manufacturing. His sons, Frank and Joe joined the business in the early 1970’s and before long, the remanufacturing of rock crushers added to their list growing capabilities. To accommodate this influx of business, PR Engineering expanded to a 45,000 square foot facility in Oshawa in the late 1970’s, where they continue to operate to this day.
As the business grew, the number of employees grew as well, increasing to well over 50 dedicated staff. Business remained strong as companies lined up to get their rock crushers built or repaired. But tragedy would hit in 2007, as a plane accident claimed the lives of both Grieco brothers (Frank and Joe.) Despite speculation of the company’s future, there was little surprise when it was announced that Frank’s wife, Linda Grieco, would step up into a leadership position and continue on the family business.
Under her leadership, PR Engineering has not only continued to operate at a high standard, but it has flourished – receiving an award from the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce in 2008 for Business Excellence – just one year removed from their devastating losses.
Today, PR Engineering designs and manufactures the Birdsboro Buchanan line of heavy-duty double toggle primary jaw crushers as well as specializing in the design, manufacture, component repair and parts supply for large equipment aggregate and other heavy industries. In addition, the company is an authorized Metso Minerals Repair Centre.
Our reputation has been built upon our specialization in crushers, coupled with our ability to handle everything from minor to catastrophic equipment failures with quickness and efficiency. We pride ourselves on our ability to minimize customer downtime and limit production losses.
Today, PR Engineering is outfitted with a variety of equipment to service large crushers and other industrial machinery. These tools include large horizontal boring mills, planer mills and lathes. Our greatest performer in terms of production is our large Vertical Boring Mill, which has the ability to turn large diameters up to 209 inches x 14 feet high, making it one of the largest in North America. This machine’s capabilities is our most highly sought after commodity and creates a high demand for our service.
Beyond our machinery, at the heart of the company is our highly skilled staff of dedicated employees. Although these people are generally skilled when they are integrated into the company, PR Engineering puts them through additional in-house training. This cross training gives our employees the flexibility to work more than one machine making them extremely efficient and important to the daily running of our operation and enables the plant to put as many people as required on critical emergency jobs.
At PR Engineering, we proudly stand behind our commitment to service and the quality of our fabrication work.
